Summer Week 2

 Hello again, readers!

Another week has flown by at the Brevard Veterans Memorial Center (BVMC), and it's been a productive one, despite the notorious Florida heat! This week, Eric and I braved the summer heat to photograph some of the incredible monuments that grace the center's grounds. The goal is to begin creating 3D models of these important historical markers. It was a lot of careful positioning and snapping hundreds of photos to make sure we had everything we needed to start modeling.

Beyond our outdoor photography expedition, we also spoke with representatives from the museum. We talked about which objects inside the center would be ideal candidates for our 3D digitization project. It's exciting to think about bringing some of these incredible artifacts to life in a way that will be viewable online to more people

At home I had some additional work to start the modeling process. I spent time uploading all the photographs we took and then started experimenting with the 3D modeling software myself. It's a fascinating process, taking all those individual images and piecing them together to form a cohesive 3D representation. There's a learning curve, but seeing the models start to take shape has been really impressive, the technology is able to do a lot with the photos you give it. I'm really looking forward to seeing how these 3D models enhance the experience for visitors to the BVMC. A veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, Vacanti's legacy is preserved in a collection of memorabilia generously donated by his daughter. Week 1

       Greetings, readers. I'm Trent Chamberlain, and this is my blog chronicling my Spring 2025 internship experience.  I'm thrilled to be working at the Military History Museum in Kissimmee. This week provided an initial immersion into the museum's operations and the scope of my internship project.   I had the pleasure of meeting with Mr. Harrison Smith, the museum's Collections Manager. Mr. Smith generously took time off from his other job to provide me with a comprehensive orientation.  I was grateful that he took the time to make sure I was properly informed at the museum. Week 3

 Hello readers. This week, I continued my internship working on the Vacanti Collection. This collection comprises; personal artifacts, documents, photographs, etc. belonging to LCDR Vacanti. I spent the majority of this week accessioning the collection into our system. This process is crucial to ensure that nothing gets misplaced in storage and to get a detailed inventory of every item. Also, this week, I started to examine the various medals that LCDR Vacanti received during his military service. His medals illustrate the diverse areas where he served his country. He has two World War II occupation medals: one for Asia and one specifically for China. These medals were awarded to service members who served in those regions while the Allies occupied them following World War II. He also has service medals for both the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
